Homelessness is an Experience… not an identity!

The Ambassadors Circle (Website|Twitter) is jumping in with #SFHomelessProject where almost 100 media outlets are coordinating efforts to blast the airwaves and internet with stories, data and potential solutions for our region’s chronic homelessness issue. On today’s episode of 360BayArea we chat with Brandon Davis (LinkedIn), Project Director of Downtown Streets Team (DST) , along with Darcel and Samantha who have both experienced life on the streets, and the transformational effect the organization has had on both of them.

DST is celebrating 10 years and 1000 successes in helping homeless individuals with shelter and employment and is the brainchild of original Napster CEO and now Executive Director Eileen Richardson (Twitter). Shout out to the entire DST team who is inspiring all of us around the circle to #DoMoreGood!

Brandon Davis (LinkedIn) has been working on behalf of the “unsheltered” since he graduated in 2008.  With skills in community outreach, fundraising and program management, Brandon cut his teeth providing street based outreach and case management services that met the needs of homeless individuals living in downtown San Jose, CA. He was a major contributor in dealing with one of the nation’s largest homeless camps known as “The Jungle”.  In 2010 Brandon began working with Downtown Streets Team (DST) where he is leading the implementation of a work experience model that has helped almost 1000 individuals across the Bay Area gain employment and shelter.

The Bay Area is filled with art. Whether found on the street murals, chic galleries, or museums, we’re lucky that we have made our home amongst the creatives. And with our support, the indy galleries and artists can tell rarely told and fascinating stories. But as the cost of living rises, the disparity between those who make art and those who buy art widens. This was made painfully clear from the Ghost Ship fire, where...
